Riverway Residence

A simple cuboid Structure, the façade has a pleasing geometry which combines brick, textures stone & white walls, surrounded by lush greenery. The entrance is defined by a pergola, a champa tree & names of individual family members engraved in the devnagari script on wood. At the centre of the space is the brahmasthan, substituting for the traditional courtyard, even as the multifunctional device divides the space into its various areas and simultaneously draws attention, inviting closer inspection with its assemblage of wooden members, jalis & intriguing natural light pouring from above.

An exquisite pool designed right adjacent to the living room, plays a very crafty role in forming a backdrop of waterfall cascade into the shallow 4.5ft plunge pool which runs the length through the wall connecting with the outer garden space. The cantilevered ledges at the windows provide informal sitting recalling the jharokhas of traditional homes, with loose cushions for backrest. The design displays interpretation of functionalism delivered through aesthetics.

A glass walkway supported by wooden members forms a part of the assemblage in the Brahmasthan casting slow moving shadows on the walls. Strategically placed skylight flooding the washroom with sunlight and hanging creepers bring greenery inside. Single stone with varying texture is used both as wall cladding and flooring.

The concept of the staircase conveys the ambiance of timeless classicism through its material pallet of teak wood steps finished with authentic wax polish and white mat finished wall. The floating wooden steps are connected to each other by the natural Hemp rope accentuating the linear transition through space and adding value to the visual volume. A boat from the tribes of the Nagaland has been installed as an art piece on the landing of the stairs that give the raw and exotic touch to the space. The design displays interpretation of functionalism delivered through aesthetics.
